Giving Tree Brightens Birthdays for Kids in Need

The members of the Giving Tree assembled 30 birthday bags which will be donated to children living at Alpha House, a women's shelter. The students wrote heartfelt and compelling letters to local businesses requesting specific items for the birthday bags. We would like to thank Giant Tiger, Superstore, Walmart and our Linwood School Parent Council for their generous donations. Our younger members made beautiful birthday cards for the children to be included in the bags.

After the bags were assembled, Violet said "I love Giving Tree. It makes me happy to help people." All students left with happiness in their hearts as they learned that giving provides even more joy than receiving!

Band Visit

Yesterday, the students at Linwood were lucky enough to kick the week off with a visit from a band!  Mr. Johnson, band director at George Waters and St. James Collegiate, brought the senior high Concert Band and Jazz Band to play for our students.  It was wonderful to see some former Linwood students participating in the performance.

Day of Pink

Today at Linwood we are participating in the National Day of Pink, organized by the Canadian Red Cross.  All staff and students have been invited to wear pink to show that we are taking a stand against bullying, along with over 300 other Manitoba schools.

Classrooms have been discussing strategies for responding to bullying and reviewing how to use our "WITS".  Many students made posters to show their support.
