Staff Appreciation Week

Parent Council treated the Linwood staff to a week of Mexican themed fun to show appreciation.  Each teacher got a bag of goodies and there were treats each day served with a smile in the staff room.  On Friday, Parent Council hosted a Fun Fiesta assembly with all of the students before spoiling staff with a delicious Mexican lunch and a draw for many wonderful prizes.  Our thanks to all who contributed by volunteering or donating items. Huge thanks to Parent Council members for organizing the week and for spending their time preparing and serving the treats all week.  Our staff are so fortunate to work with your children everyday and to be a part of this generous, caring community.  Thank you!

Celebrations of Learning

During the final term of the school year each classroom has planned a special event where families are invited to the school to celebrate the year of learning with their student.  We value the partnership with have with our families and thank you all for your support over the year. Each teacher will communicate details about their classroom's Celebration of Learning.  Please "save the date" for upcoming events.

Kindergarten- "Dinosaur Extravaganza" - May 13

Grade 1 (Room 8) and Grade 1/2 (Room 1) - "Family Fun" - Held in April- Thanks for joining us!

Grade 2/3 (Rooms 4, 6 and 10) -  "Exploring the World" - June 16

Grade 4/5 (Rooms 15, 16 and 18) - "Team Work Challenge" - June 3

Outdoor Recess

Students have the opportunity to be outdoors engaged in free play for 60 minutes daily while at school.  During extreme weather conditions (extreme cold as per division policy, lightning)  recess will be held indoors.  While an indoor recess does provide students with a break from academics,  it does not provide the same opportunity for fresh air, open space and exercise as getting outside.  Our goal will be to be outdoors for recess whenever possible.

Spring weather in Winnipeg is unpredictable; sun, wind, rain, and even snow!  That could mean we need hats and sunscreen one day then coats, rain boots and even mitts the next! Please take each day's conditions into account when sending your child to school.  Being prepared for the weather will help to ensure that he/she will be comfortable during outdoor play periods.    Thank you for your support!

Class Placement 2016-2017

The purpose of the Class Placement Process is to maximize learning for all students by constructing balanced classes.

The class creation process is a complex one involving the gathering of information about student needs and the making of collaborative decisions from staff and administrative teams about student placement in classes.

Factors considered are academic progress, specific instructional needs in different areas, interactions between students, gender balance, numbers in each grade for multi-level classrooms, and information provided by the current teachers, child, and parents.  If there is information in addition to the knowledge we presently have about your child that you believe may be important to our consideration of class placement, please let Mrs. McDonald know.

Placing students is not an easy task and the professionals in our school invest a great deal of time and thought into the process.   The classroom drafts are reviewed by collaborative teams of classroom teachers, specialists and administration. We strive to create the conditions that will help each child be successful here at Linwood.

Students in Grade 2 from Rooms 4, 6 and 10 as well as students in Grade 4 from Rooms 15, 16, and 18 will continue on to Grade 3 and 5, respectively, with their current classroom groupings.  Towards the end of June we will once again hold “Bump Up Day” where all students meet with their new teacher and classmates. This experience was well received last year and benefited students by reducing anxiety and creating excitement about the new year.

Please direct all questions to Mrs. McDonald at 204-889-9356. Thank you for your support.
