The first official day of classes at Linwood was fantastic! We kicked off the day with a whole school assembly where we discussed all the ways that we work together at Linwood to make our school a safe and respectful "home away from home" for everyone. Staff and students all work together in our "school family" to make our school a great place to come every day.
In our classrooms, teachers and students are already working together to make "belief statements" or "class promises" that underline the ways each member of the class team contributes to a positive learning environment. Relationships are being built and routines are being established.
We are off to a great start with our new school year!
As parents, you can be a partner in your child's education in many ways. Here are just a few:
* Ask questions. When we ask our children "What did you do at school today?" we get "nothing" as a reply. Try some of these:
- Who did you play with at recess?
- What did you/your teacher read about in class?
- Was the morning math problem a brain tickler?
- Did anything funny happen today?
- What games did you play in gym/music?
* Come out to Parent Council. No need to commit to being at every meeting. There are lots of "behind the scenes" jobs for parents who can contribute time - whether that's a little or a lot. The Annual Establishment Meeting is coming up on Thursday, September 15 @ 6:30 in the staff room. Come join us!
* Stay informed by checking this blog and the classroom blogs often. Don't forget to sign up for Remind (both the school and your child's classroom)!
* Help your child by reviewing school expectations and routines together at home. These are all published on this blog; click the Parent/Student Handbook tab.
* Communicate openly. If there is something on your mind, be in touch with your child's teacher sooner than later.
We are looking forward to our continued partnership with all families.
Happy September,
The Linwood Staff

Early Learning Tools from The Learning Partnership
The Learning Partnership Offers Up Early Learning Tools for the New School Year
The early years experts at The Learning Partnership have developed some great tools to offer parents of early learners on how to make the most of the new school year, both in the classroom and in their own family rooms.
This time of year means a fresh start and the perfect opportunity for new ‘school year’ resolutions - not just for the child, but for the parent. Regardless of last year’s successes (or challenges), every new school year is an opportunity to begin again. Whether they’re in kindergarten or Grade 12, this tip sheet provides four ways parents can help their children succeed in school.
The influence of media is everywhere. Raising children in this digital age is filled with opportunity and also with challenges. The early years are a critical time in making healthy media choices and developing solid habits that nurture positive growth. So, how can families successfully structure and navigate the virtual world on behalf of their young children? We have four ways for you to engage in healthy media consumption activities for your little ones.
The Learning Partnership’s Welcome to Kindergarten program provides families with a kit of early learning items and activities to help parents engage with their children and get them ready for school. But even if you haven’t been to a Welcome to Kindergarten session, you have things already in your home that you can use to help your child develop the foundations needed for a successful transition to school - such as, listening and speaking, sharing and taking turns, vocabulary development, print, alphabet and number awareness, hand and finger coordination and creative thinking.
With summer winding down, the endless afternoons of running and playing outside are coming to an end – but cooler weather doesn’t have to mean staying inside! This school year, The Learning Partnership suggests six simple ways to keep your children healthy and active.
Talk Read Sing Play every day!
The Learning Partnership is a charitable organization dedicated to supporting, promoting and advancing publicly funded education in Canada.

School wide communication tools include our school News Blog
http://linwoodschool.blogspot.ca
which is used to share stories and
information regarding events and activities at the school. Readers may subscribe to receive an email
when there is a new posting.
The school also uses “Remind”, a service that provides text
and/or email reminders to families about things that are important to the whole
school (early dismissal, parent council events, inservice days, etc). Should you have questions about either of
these tools, please stop by the office during opening conferences so that we
may be of assistance.
All teaching staff,
including specialists and administration, have email addresses listed on the
blog should you wish to contact us that way.
The office is open daily from 8:15 AM -4:15 PM if you would
like to reach a staff member by phone at 204-889-9356.
During the opening conference, your child’s teacher will
share with you regarding communication tools specific to their classroom.
Looking forward to making 2016-2017 a wonderful year,
The Linwood School Staff
