Stuck for a Buck

Today at Linwood we held our "Stuck for a Buck" fundraiser, organized by The Giving Tree Group.  All week long, students have been bringing in donations for Free the Children. Each dollar donated purchased one piece of duct tape towards sticking Mrs. McDonald to the wall of the gym.  We raised $260 with Stuck for Buck to add to the $380 from licorice sales earlier in March.  At the next Giving Tree meeting in April, students will select items for their $640 donation.  Excellent job, Linwood!
Special thanks to Ms. Jensen, Mrs. Turner, and Mrs. Vincent for helping to organize!

We started by watching a video about Free the Children.

Hearing the instructions.

One more movement before getting stuck.

Little Free Library Update

With the recent warm weather, our Little Free Library has been very busy!  As a result, it is running low on books.  If you have any used children's books that you would like to share, please place them inside the LFL or in the bins located in the front hallway of the school.  Thank you!

Linwood Choir Earns Silver

The Linwood Intermediate Choir performed last Wednesday at the Winnipeg Music Festival at the Westminster United Church. Their beautiful performance of two songs, Mist on the River and Canoe Song earned them a silver standing! The choir has worked very hard over the last two months learning these new songs and very successfully sang them in 2-parts! Great job Choir!

Our Trip to the WSO

Students in Grades 4 & 5 were treated last Tuesday to a fantastic concert performed by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra! This years' concert theme celebrated the opening of the Human Rights Museum at the Forks. A very special part of the concert was given by the St. James Assiniboina Divisional Choirs of which Kiera, Rebecca & Skylar from Linwood belong! Concert pieces included The William Tell Overture, the Theme Song from Superman and Wavin' Flag!

Kindness Crew Recognized By Mayor Bowman

In January, students at Linwood participated in the Great Kindness Challenge.  Recently, we received a letter from Mayor Bowman congratulating our students, led by the Kindness Crew, for their dedication to making our school and our community a better place.  Nice work, Linwood!

Thank You, Parents!

The staff at Linwood were treated like stars during a wonderful Staff Appreciation week, organized by Parent Council.

The Hollywood themed week started with movie theatre style treats.  Throughout the week other treats included gourmet popcorn and deluxe parfaits.  We were even give "swag bags"!

On Friday, the staff were asked to dress as movies stars for a surprise assembly.  The paparazzi were in full effect as the staff walked the red carpet.  Student reporters asked each staff member an interview question to add to the fun.  Staff were treated to a V.I.P. luncheon to end a glamorous week.

Our most sincere gratitude is extended our parent community for your generosity in providing such a week.  We are privileged to work with your children everyday and to be acknowledged with such appreciation is another gift.  Special thanks to Parent Council for planning and organizing the event.

Celebration of Learning Conferences

On Thursday, March 12th and Friday, March 13th, we will be having our triad conferences. The purpose of these conferences, led by the student, is to share what is happening in the classroom and to give students the opportunity to demonstrate, reflect on, and celebrate their own individual growth. Students will be prepared to showcase their learning from term two.

As the focus is on celebrating learning, and due to the fact that there will be multiple families together in the classroom, this is not the ideal time to discuss any concerns you may have about your child. If you would like to arrange to speak privately with your child’s classroom teacher please contact her/him directly.

We are going to try an “Open House” format this time round, meaning no need to schedule a time to come visit.  Classrooms will be open on Thursday evening from 4:30pm – 7:00 pm and on Friday morning from 9:30-11:15 am.

Mrs. Rogala will be available in the gym office during these times to meet with you regarding your child’s progress in Physical Education and Mrs. Wurch invites students and parents to visit the music room.  Please note that because Mrs. Wurch is a part time teacher, the music room hours on Thursday evening will be 4:30-6:30 PM.

If you have any questions about our conferences, please call the school at 204-889-9356.

We look forward to seeing everyone!
