Giving Tree FUN-draisers

What do licorice and taping the principal to the wall have in common?

The money raised by both initiatives will support the Giving Tree’s plan to raise money toward a global cause.  With the money that is raised, the Giving Tree students will choose how to donate the money through Free The Children.  Feel free to browse the website at www.freethechildren.com.

Giving Tree students will be selling licorice at recess on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for the first two weeks of March (March 2, 4, 6, 9, 11).  Each piece will cost 50 cents.

From March 23 – 26th, students will be encouraged to bring in as many loonies as they wish for the “Stuck for a Buck” campaign.  Each loonie will purchase one strip of duct tape that will be used to tape Mrs. McDonald up on a wall! On March 27th at 9:15, the whole school will witness and help tape Mrs. McDonald to the wall!

Annual Floor Hockey Challenge

This year the Linwood Floor Hockey Challenge has 43 students in grades 4 & 5 participating. There are six teams who played in a round robin and then a double knockout tournament. The students are responsible for refereeing; timekeeping and making sure the players are present when their team plays. Sportsmanship and fair play are they key to the success of the event. The teams play during the lunch hour. The final game will take place on March 16th.  The pictures below are a little blurry, a testament to the level of action!  Special thanks to Mrs. Rogala for organizing this school classic!

Choir News

The Linwood Intermediate Choir performed two songs at the St. James Assiniboia Divisional Music Celebration on Thursday, February 12th in the evening at Sturgeon Creek United Church. Our adjudicator, Ms. Carolyn Boyes (director of the Winnipeg Boys' Choir) had many great words of praise for the choir, including their fantastic ability to focus and their legato singing that was "so lovely and musical"!

Ms. Boyes worked for a few moments with the choir and gave many helpful hints of how to improve in time for our Winnipeg Music Festival performance on March 11th.

Ms. Jackie Gagne, Arts Coordinator for SJSD would also like to thank our wonderful Linwood families for assisting with tear down after Thursday nights' performance! She was very grateful to receive all the help that was so freely given! Thank you!

Congratulations on a great job Linwood Choir! Keep up the wonderful dedication and singing!
